The Institute is home to a research active community:

  • Manages a diverse range of active research grants which total £34 million
  • Hosts MindTech - a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Healthcare Technology Co-operative focused on the development of new technology for mental healthcare
  • Delivers the national Knowledge and Understanding Framework (KUF) providing education about working more effectively with people with personality disorder
  • Hosts the Cochrane Schizophrenia Group for the evaluation of the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of people with psychotic illnesses
  • Hosts the NIHR Clinical Research Network East Midlands (CRN EM) mental health theme
  • Hosts the NIHR Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care East Midlands (CLARHC EM)
  • Hosts the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) mental health and technology theme
  • Has 33 full and associate professors, 109 PhD students, 380 external members and publishes more than 500 peer-reviewed journal papers per year
  • Has 10 Managed Innovation Networks (MINs) that ‘bridge the gap between research and practice’
  • Hosts a number of prestigious National Institute for Health Senior Investigator Award positions
