This innovative and ground-breaking educational framework, jointly commissioned by NHS England and Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service and delivered by the Institute of Mental Health, aims to support people to work more effectively with personality disorder.

The key goal is to improve service user experience through developing the capabilities, skills and knowledge of the multi-agency workforces in health, social care and criminal justice who are dealing with the challenges people with personality disorder present.

The framework features:

  • Raising awareness – a personality disorder virtual learning awareness programme
  • Developing understanding and effectiveness - validated undergraduate degree modules
  • Extending expertise, enhancing practice - validated masters degree modules

All our high quality Knowledge and Understanding Framework (KUF) modules are co-delivered by leading practitioners and service user consultants. The institute has supported over 45,000 students through a variety of KUF personality disorder modules and training programmes since 2008.

We offer BSc and MSc modules validated by The Open University, and also a range of non-validated awareness training sessions.

The Open University validated BSc and MSc modules are available as standalone units of learning (single modules).

The non-validated awareness level programme has a number of packages available including a "train the trainers" version.
