Ever since the Institute of Mental Health was launched, patient and public involvement has added real value to our research and teaching. Patient and public involvement (PPI) has improved research, teaching, conferences, publications and the delivery of high-quality, evidenced-informed care. People have become involved with the Institute through both formal and informal mechanisms. In the future we will be looking to formalise the arrangements more.

People with a lived experience of mental health have engaged with the IMH in many ways:

  • As a guest to the Institute
  • As a student
  • Registering as a public contributor
  • Engagement as a contractor
  • As an employee

We have established an advisory board to oversee patient and public involvement within the Institute of Mental Health.
