Aims:

This MIN provides a multi-disciplinary and creative platform to raise awareness, and new knowledge, on issues surrounding trauma. Our aim is to raise awareness and consciousness of the issues surrounding trauma while providing new insights into people’s experience of a wide range of suffering from birth trauma to war trauma. This is a rare opportunity to reflect and gain new insights on trauma studies and the therapeutic role of the arts.

One of the outcomes from this MIN will be an exbition by artist Andy Farr at the Institute of Mental Health to be launched in October 2018. Andy is a member of the MIN and has conducted a series of interviews with front line practitioners, clinicians, researchers and people that have experienced severe distress, with the view to adress both historical and contemporary accounts of trauma. Andy has been working with individual accounts of trauma to create 12 moving and thought-provoking depictions of what it is like to suffer and recover from mental health challenges.

Network members and organisations include Nottingham City Council's Edge of Care team, Nottingham Playhouse, City Arts, Centre for Trauma Resiliance and Growth, UK trauma network and the Birth Trauma Association amongst others.
