Professor Paul Crawford leads our Centre for Social Futures. Paul is the founder and world’s first professor of the field of health humanities.

He directs the Centre for Social Futures at the Institute of Mental Health and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Academy of Social Sciences and Royal Society for Public Health. In addition to over 140 book chapters and journal articles, he has written or co-written 12 books: Communicating Care (Stanley Thornes, 1998), Politics and History in William Golding (U. of Missouri Press, 2002), Evidence Based Research (Open University Press, 2003) [Highly Commended Award at British Medical Association Book Competition 2004], Storytelling in Therapy (Nelson Thornes, 2004), Evidence Bassed Health Communication (Open University Press, 2006), Communication in Clinical Settings (Nelson Thornes, 2006), Madness in Post-1945 British and American Fiction (Palgrave, 2010), Health Humanities (Palgrave, 2015), Humiliation (Emerald, 2019), The Routledge Companion for Health Humanities (Routledge, 2020), and Florence Nightingale at Home (Palgrave paperback, forthcoming, 2020). He is commissioning editor for a new series Arts for Health (Emerald, forthcoming 2020) and Lead Editor-in-Chief for The Encyclopedia of Health Humanities (Springer, forthcoming 2021).
