We are supporting colleagues from the NIHR ARC East Midlands with this study examining facilitators and barriers to forensic staff seeking mental wellbeing support at work.

EmpaMEG: Developing a neurobiological understanding of cognitive and affective empathy in antisocial personality disorder and psychopathy- a multimodal imaging study.

Prisons are challenging environments in which to work, with major concerns about staff safety and associated pressures on their mental health. Considerable research has been done on these matters in prison officers, however, healthcare staff in prisons have been largely overlooked.

Older individuals (55 years and over) constitute a growing proportion of the prison population. As a group, they are more vulnerable to poor health outcomes to those with serious mental disorders of the same age, however, the specific healthcare profiles and needs of this group were not well understood.
