Meet the team - Institute of Mental Health

Professor Martin Orrell is a leading figure in old age psychiatry and dementia research, with an international reputation for advancing evidence-based mental health care for older people. He is Director of the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), a partnership between the University of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. He also serves as Honorary Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist with the Rapid Response Liaison Team at Queen’s Medical Centre.

Currently the Interim Head of Research and Operations for the Institute, as well as Head of Communications, Lou takes responsibility for co-ordinating the organisation, operational leadership, management, and performance of the Institute of Mental Health. She supports the Director of the Institute, in the development and implementation of the Institute’s strategic vision.

Kate is our Public Involvement Lead. In her role she supports, develops and delivers the Involvement needs of the Institute of Mental Health’s research advisors, volunteers and academic teams.

Dr Grace Carter is a Joint Director of the Centre for Mental Health and Human Rights and an assistant professor based at the School of Law.

Professor Ralph Sandland is a Joint Director of the Centre for Mental Health and Human Rights and has taught mental health law in the School of Law for many years.

Professor Eddie Kane leads our Centre for Health and Justice.

Maddie is Director of CANDAL and Professor in Neurodevelopmental Conditions.

Professor Richard Morriss leads our Centre for Mood Disorders.

Professor Paul Crawford leads our Centre for Social Futures. Paul is the founder and world’s first professor of the field of health humanities.

Professor Marcus Kaiser is a Joint Director of the Centre for Translational Neuroscience.

Dr Mohammad Zia Ul Haq Katshu is a Joint Director of the Centre for Translational Neuroscience

Chris Hollis is the Director of the NIHR MindTech MedTech Co-operative and Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Nottingham and Consultant in Developmental Neuropsychiatry with Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
