Bringing together educators, artists, academics and young people in and around Nottingham to talk about comics, graphic novels, zines and adolescent mental health.

• Hear from: artists and graphic novelists, educators and mental healts scholars
• Consider: the potential of creating visual stories via comics, grpahic novels and zines to help young people explore and communicate about mental health
• Discuss: if, how and where creative approaches and mental health interventions can be brought together through partnerships in Nottingham
• Connect, collaborate and think: about next steps while enjoying lunch and viewing exhibition materials.

Speakers:

Ethan and Naomi Sacks, father and daughter New York based writers of acclaimed graphic novel series, A Haunted Girl. They will share their experience of creating a terrifying story inspired by personal experience.

Liam Mills, a Nottingham based artist, will describe mental health and design avatar creation project with Ignite Nottingham and the Outburst-NGY (youth centre at Base 51) - and discuss next steps from this work around identity, mental health and comics. 

Elvira Perez, Professor of Digital Technology for mental health will talk about the collabortive project, 'What's Up With Everyone?' between Aardman creative animations, University of Nottingham and young people to co-create animated stories around mental health.

You will also hear from other academics and educators including:

Matt Gill, Senior Lecturer, School of Art & Design, NTU

There will also be representatives from community organisations, ChalleNGe Nottingham Cultutral Education Partnership, and Ignite Nottingham, as well as local creative producers and young creatives.

Woven Ink, animations and creative studio will join us to create a visual rich picture from the day. We'll share this digitally and at an in person follow-up exhbition hosted at the Institute of Mental Health.
