Dr Kate Gridley from the University of York will present on 'What next? Accessing support and navigating social care after a diagnosis of dementia'. 

Kate’s presentation draws on qualitative evidence from her research into the ways people living with dementia access social care and support, with a specific focus on those who don’t qualify for state funded care. This group receive minimal help to navigate the services available, leaving them to draw heavily upon informal contacts and family. Those without strong ‘navigation’ capital describe struggling to access the range of services that should be available to them, and some may reach crisis before help is secured. Kate will introduce two current studies looking into possible ways to tackle these problems, one drawing on peer-support (the Good Life with Dementia course) and one supporting decision making for self-funded social care via an online decision tool (Care Confidence).
