Briony is close to completing her PhD at the University of Nottingham under the supervision of Prof. Martin Orrell and Dr Orii McDermott. Her PhD focused on the human rights of people with dementia and their supporters worldwide. The PhD work has been conducted as part of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Mental Health, Disability, and Human Rights at the university.

Briony will be presenting on her PhD work which has informed the development process of WHO good practice guidance for community dementia services. The guidance will showcase community dementia services around the world that provide good recovery-oriented, person-centred, and rights-based care approaches. This will demonstrate to other services, staff, and policymakers how good practice can be achieved in a wide range of legal and financial contexts, upholding the human rights of people affected by dementia in the process. The guidance is due to be launched in 2026 by the WHO.
