Marcus studied biology and computer science and is now Professor of Neuroinformatics within the Precision Imaging Beacon in the School of Medicine.

His work is focused on predicting the effects of brain stimulation, either invasive approaches or non-invasive approaches such as focused ultrasound. For this, he uses a combination of techniques from machine learning and network analysis to computer simulations. Marcus also develops models of disease progression, including the progression of dementia before and after the onset of clinical symptoms based on neuroimaging data. The aim is to improve the treatment of brain disorders and mental health conditions.
