Last week saw the global launch of the World Health Organisation (WHO) QualityRights e-training on mental health featuring Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus the WHO Director-General.

Over 3000 people viewed the launch live and a recording of the event is available to watch here. As a WHO Collaborating Centre, the key contribution of our Centre for Mental Health and Human Rights was highlighted in helping to analyse the data and evaluate the impact of the e-training. The results showed that the e-training was effective in improving attitudes to human rights in mental health.

This new e-training package stems from the WHO QualityRights initiative, which aims to improve quality of care in mental health and related services and promote the rights of people with psychosocial and cognitive disabilities. A significant aspect of this initiative is the MiNDbank programme, the development of a single access point for international resources relating to mental health and human rights. The Centre for Mental Health and Human Rights is one of the global partners working on this project.

The associated QualityRights e-training is available in 11 languages and covers a broad range of mental health topics, from looking after your own mental health to supporting friends and family. It also includes tackling stigma and moving mental health services towards a rights-based recovery approach.
