Throughout the University of Nottingham there are dispersed research and education groups with an interest in mood disorders across many faculties and divisions, in areas such as affective computing, sensor detection in engineering, and self-harm in psychology.

Within Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, there has been significant mood disorder research among colleagues and significant service developments such as the specialist depression service for persistent moderate to severe depression and group psychoeducation for bipolar disorder. There are many active service users and members of the public who contribute actively to mood disorder research.

The Centre’s work programme focuses on:

  • Depression and bipolar disorder in adults - led by Professor Richard Morriss
  • Mood disorder in younger people - led by Professor Kapil Sayal
