Dr Paul Briley is Clinical Associate Professor in Mood Disorders and Clinical Lead for the Nottingham Research and Advice for Depression (NRAD) clinics.

Paul worked on the BRIGhTMIND trial of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for treating depression. TMS is a non-invasive neuromodulation treatment that is able to help many people with depression get well and stay well, but not everyone benefits.

Paul studies ways to boost (augment) response to TMS, by combining TMS with other neuromodulation techniques, medications, or computer-based tasks, and by personalising treatment using simple measures of brain activity.

He is particularly interested in patient and public involvement in neuromodulation research, and in approaches that can increase availability and accessibility of the full range of treatment options for depression.
