Current projects include: 

  • TaRGeTS, funded by the British Medical Association, using MR spectroscopy, structural and functional MRI to extend understanding of brain abnormalities in schizophrenia with the goal of identifying individuals likely to benefit from treatment that enhances defence against oxidative damage  
  • Analysis of data from the Multimodal Imaging Studies of Psychosis with the aim of identifying the core deficit of classical schizophrenia 
  • Defining the disturbance in cortical glutamate and GABA function in psychosis: (collaboration with Universities of Manchester and Cardiff) funded by the Medical Research Council; employing MR spectroscopy, MRI and Magnetoencephalography (MEG) 
  • Use of MR spectroscopy and functional MRI to investigate the mechanisms involved in co-morbid cannabis abuse and psychosis. 
  • Use of 3T and 7T MRI combined with eye-tracking and autonomic measurements) to investigate abnormalities of arousal in ADHD and autism
  • Investigation of the mechanism Gaze control training (RECOGNeyes) for the treatment of attentional disorders such as ADHD. Gaze control involves control over the physical movements of our eyes, especially inhibitory control over the impulse to look elsewhere. Watch our short video here

  • Use of transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) to treat disorders of impulse control.
