Musa is a Clinical Associate Professor in Psychiatry in the University of Nottingham, having taken up the post in February 2020.

Musa's main research interests relate to schizophrenia, serious mental illness and the overlap with addictive disorders and particularly dual diagnosis.

Musa undertook my undergraduate medical qualification from Queen Mary’s University of London, then completed their foundation training in an academic post and moved to core training in Medicine. Musa obtained the MRCP qualifications earlier in my career and the MRCPsych in 2013 and completed Core Training/Higher Specialist Training in psychiatry. During the latter, Musa undertook a PhD through Medical Research Council fellowship (circa £246k) at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, KCL in the area of cannabis and psychosis.

In their new role, Musa established a Clinical Network for Dual Diagnosis in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and was centrally involved in helping to obtain a Doctoral Training Programme in the area of mental health and the neurosciences, and put together symposia in the Society of Study for Addictions (2019) in the area of ethical dilemmas in addiction treatment and for the RCPsych International Congress (2021) in the area of dual diagnosis. 

Musa is open to further collaborations and contact from prospective PhD students.
