This project aims to understand the experiences of vulnerable children and young people through the Covid-19 lockdown, from the lens of the practitioner in an online counselling service. This work focuses on those who are vulnerable to abuse, exploitation and chaotic family circumstances. There has been a notable increase in domestic violence and other household abuse since the lockdown measures were introduced to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the UK. Young people who live with parents with substance misuse problems, or who are abusive or neglectful have been put in particularly vulnerable situations having to remain in chaotic or harmful household environments during school closures. Service level considerations for the impact and implications of their experiences and ongoing support needs as we continue to live through the pandemic are necessary. To raise the voices of those less heard project partners include a group of young people who advise and advocate for young people’s mental health.

The work is being led and funded by Kooth. Joanna Lockwood’s role is advisory and she is involved in the design, involvement opportunities, dissemination/publications.
