COVID-19 has resulted in new cases of severe COVID-19 health anxiety and a change in the presentation of mental health problems in those who had pre-existing mental health conditions. This project led by Prof Richard Morriss aims to understand the specific nature of severe COVID-19 health anxiety and its behavioural consequences, develop videoconferencing cognitive behaviour therapy and online self-management interventions, and provide preliminary evidence of acceptability, feasibility and effectiveness for the population and patients with pre-existing conditions. The study is supported by NIHR Applied Research Collaboration East Midlands.
