A recently developed approach to help therapists improve, called deliberate practice, has been tested and advanced in current research at the Institute of Mental Health, led by Dr Sam Malins and the TRIPOD team.

There can be large differences between psychological therapists in terms of how helpful they are for their clients. Psychological therapists do not get more effective with time or experience, on average. Deliberate practice uses the same skills applied to improve effectiveness in sports, music, or chess to improve therapy skills. This approach has been enhanced using machine learning, by offering therapists automated feedback on client prognosis using the recordings of their sessions.

The TRIPOD project aimed to develop an automated feedback tool to help monitor and enhance the effectiveness of psychological therapies.

We are inviting members of the public, clinical staff, researchers, and representatives from the healthcare industry to hear how the project progressed and contribute to discussions of where developments may go next.

This event is free, but places are limited, so if you would like to attend, please register via the Institute of Mental Health website.
